What’s On in February

Allan Baldwin did the honours at the Burns Night Dinner last Wednesday for which we thank him. It was a very enjoyable evening with a delicious meal cooked by John, readings from Burns’ poetry and a risqué rendition of a ditty penned by Mike Leonard-Williams many moons ago – say no more!

February is going to be a busy month for the club on the social front so here’s a calendar for the fridge at home. The usual Early Bird Menu on a Tuesday evening and the Thursday Quiz continue.

The Scandinavian Saga

The month kicks off with the final talk in a trilogy presented by Madeleine and Stephan Strobel entitled The Scandinavian Saga: The Final Episode on Wednesday, 1st February at 8pm. Those of you who have been to the other two will know that not only are the talks fascinating, they are also accompanied by stunning photographs. Supper will be served from 6.30pm – £8-50pp. Please book with the Bistro.

Six Nations

This year’s Six Nations Rugby Series begins on Saturday, 4th February during which the club will show all the matches in which England is playing. If you would like to see other matches that are being played when the club is open, please ask a member of staff to put the television on. The following matches are the ones we guarantee to show:

  • Saturday, 4th February – England v France KO 4.50pm
  • Saturday, 11th February – Wales v England KO 4.50pm
  • Saturday, 25th February – England v Italy KO 3pm
  • Saturday, 11th March – England v Scotland KO 4pm
  • Saturday, 18th March – Ireland v England KO 5pm

Community Transport: What will work for Newton / Noss?

The talk by the Environment Group on Wednesday, 8th February should prove to be of interest to many people. Starting at 8pm, Mark Hodgson, CEO of ‘CO Cars’ will talk about Community Transport: What model would work in Newton and Noss? Treat your loved one to dinner at the club on Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, 14th February. The menu sounds wonderful and it all starts off with a complimentary glass of bubbly. Ooh saucy!

Do you know which sauce to serve with which kind of pasta? Last year John taught us how to make homemade pasta to be proud of. This time on Wednesday, 22nd February he’ll show us which sauces to serve with different kinds of pasta. Spanish Theme Night

From Italy to Spain! Join us on Saturday, 25th February for a Spanish Theme Night in the Bistro. Tapas, paella and more Spanish culinary delights to be enjoyed. The Bistro will be decorated and Spanish music will get you in the mood! Time and cost tbc.

The Royal Western Yacht Club is selling its fleet of Mirror Dinghies. The boats are fully equipped. If you are interested in buying one please call 01752 660077.

Club AGM

The AGM of the YYC takes place on Sunday, 23rd April at 1100 with AGM papers due to be sent in March. This year there are several vacancies we are looking to fill including Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore House, Hon. Secretary and at least two Management Committee places.
