CLUB NEWS – Autumn & Winter Season
Autumn is suddenly upon us, and what a way to start it with our recent comedy night held at the club. It was a great success, with even the commodore taking to the stage before any of the acts to try some of his own material out on an unsuspecting audience! If you missed out, or would like to come to the next one, I have been speaking with Christian our comedy compere and have booked February the 19th for our next gig. More details to follow soon.
Our quiz season is set to return, starting Thursday 14th October. Andrew Moore has kindly offered to be you quiz master and has asked me to pass on the following:
- It will be downstairs.
- Tables of 4 to 6 people for the moment, but to compensate for fewer people in teams your quizmaster is going to make the questions a bit easier.
- Orders for food and drink at the table.
- Please be at your table before 7.00 pm when meals will begin to be served.
The quiz will be in the usual format, of a picture or similar quiz will start things off, followed by 30 questions on any topic the quizmaster thinks fitting.
Please help Brett and his staff by making a booking in advance.

There are only two races left in the autumn series, starting with the Yacht Haven sponsored race this weekend. Following the race Brett will be serving lunch at the club, and we have the pleasure of welcoming back Banned From the Moor, who will be playing from 2pm. A note to all race skippers: Sunday 17th is our end of season lunch. If you haven’t done so already, please contact Paul Richardson for your tickets.
On the 30th of October we have a spooktacular Halloween party planned for all children of the club, cadets or not. Tim Yonge and Brett are just putting the last few details together; more news will follow by end of the weekend.
During November and December we have a packed program of events and functions on, starting on Wednesday 10th November with a talk entitled “A bucket of water, soap and a towel”, an illustrated presentation by retired veterinary surgeon and well-known raconteur John Head. John has been sailing from his home port of Helford to The Yealm River for 50 years, and (in his spare time!) was a country vet. John will be showing photos of some of his farm clients together with wonderful anecdotes of working alongside them. It promises to be a fun night.
