Yacht Racing & Cruising

Affiliated by the RYA, the yacht racing calendar at the YYC caters for a wide sailing audience – those keen to commit to a weekly Sunday race in the Autumn Series and those who prefer specific calendar events. We have day races both locally and further afield, our annual cross channel event to Trebeurden in Brittany and passage races along the Devon & Cornish coast.

Handicapping

We operate a Class system where Class 1 is rated under the IRC scheme (for mono hull boats holding an IRC certificate) and Class 2 for those boats holding a YTC Number. Class 3 is for MOCRA rated multihulls, for specific events only. Where there are insufficient boats to run separate classes, then all boats will race against their YTC number.

Documentation

Competitors should ALWAYS ensure they’ve read and digested the sailing instructions in full and consider all the necessary safety requirements.  Note, “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.” (Rule 4 of the Racing Rules of Sailing)
