As a membership organisation, we rely on the support of our members to function properly, whether it’s helping out with safety boat duties, volunteering for a committee or chipping in at a social event. We need as much support as possible whether you’re new or old, so please do join in.
Roles and responsibilities
There are many roles and responsibilities that you may like to consider. Some are committee based while others are on a more ad hoc basis from one race to another.
Safety Boat – To operate the safety boat, you must be competent in your boat handling skills and undertake the safety boat training course at the beginning of the season. Register here for skippering & crewing the safety boat.
Officer of the Day – he/she is responsible for the race administration on the day of the race and will take decisions based on the wind, weather and sea state to ensure the safe operation of races. Decisions may include altering the course, cancellation and so on. See ‘Guidelines for Race Officers’ for more detail.
The sailing committee is responsible for organising the overall sailing programme including the race and cruising calendar, Cadets as well as the general administration and safety of each sailing event. Roles include:
- Rear Commodore Sail
- Yacht Secretary
- Dinghy Secretary
- Dayboat Secretary
- Cadet Secretary
- Sailing Committee Secretary
The social committee puts together the social calendar and works in collaboration with the club manager to provide catering and entertainment. This team is responsible for the promotion and organisation of each event too. All contributions are welcome!
The management committee is responsible for the overall operation of the club covering everything from finance to recruitment, marketing and operations. Members serve a two year term after which they may seek re-election. Roles include:
- Vice Commodore
- Rear Commodore Sail
- Hon. Secretary
- Committee members who take responsibility for such roles as Human Resources, House Maintenance, Commercial and Communications.
