Trebeurden 2016
The 26th Summertime Trebeurden Race took place in idyllic reaching conditions on 23/24 June and was considered by many of the 15 participants to be one of the most pleasant & least taxing races yet. With winds in the westerly sector, the conditions favoured the bigger and faster boats, which were able to reach an advantageous position to make the most of the change in current off the Brittany coast, which was running strongly in spring tide conditions. The multihulls reached Trebeurden well before breakfast and the Class 1 boats were not far behind. Satisfaction clinched Class 1 beating Saltheart by just over 4 minutes. Tarantella, sailing singlehandedly, did well to be third.
In Class 2, Antidote was first to arrive and won on corrected time by over 50 minutes. Rebel was second and Horizon was third on corrected time and thus as the first YYC boat became the worthy winner of the Summertime Trophy. Tony Tubb, one of our generous sponsors, took the trophy home 19 years after last winning it in Summertime. Paradoxe skippered by former Trebeurden Club President Bernard Haillouy no doubt making the most of local knowledge to keep clear of the Triagos reefs was deservedly the first French boat. In Class 3 (multihulls) Adonnante beat Backlash 2 by twenty two minutes.
Once more the Trebeurden Yacht Club generously hosted a party on arrival and an excellent post prize giving buffet lunch the next day. Thanks are due to all our sponsors including Armada Sails, Collaton Safety Consultants as well as DA Tubb.
