Sailing into 2016

Welcome to the first Sailing News of 2016, and what a busy season we have ahead of us at the YYC! First of all, we are hoping that the new website will be able to go live in the near future. If you’re reading this on the website, we made it! Luby Brook has spent many hours building it and feedback from amongst the committees has been very positive. A huge vote of thanks to Luby – a great job done!

The Club Clean Up on Saturday, 27th February certainly set the scene for the coming months with a newly power washed slip and deck, a big tidy up at both the club and the Patch and a new door for the shed at The Patch kindly donated by Andy Williams. Much appreciated Andy.

  • 3 Creeks Race – Saturday, 21st May

The following weekend also promises to be exciting when the club hosts the finish of the 3 Creeks Race. Although having taken place over the last couple of years, the race is now part of our Sailing Programme which we are very pleased about. Starting in Dartmouth on Saturday, 21st May, it moves with a combination of running and sailing to Salcombe and finishes at the club on the afternoon of Sunday, 22nd May. A poster is attached for your information with contact details. We’re delighted that Marchand Petit have agreed to sponsor the race. Last year saw a good turnout for the RNLI Passage Race and we’re hoping for an even better one this year on Saturday, 4th June. The Notice of Race will be published in the not too distant future when the start time etc will be announced. Of course, there’s the delicious tea at the club to look forward to after the race!

Saturday, 11th June will we hope be a very special day at the club when we celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday with a Parade of Boats. Peter Taylor has very kindly offered to take on the mantle of organizing it. Indeed only this week he was spied taking soundings off The Brook as part of the preparation! The RNSA Race to Roscoff begins on Saturday, 30th July – maybe a good way to start off a cruise on the other side of the Channel. Details on the poster in the Club Room.
